Carbon Sequestration in water – build – carbon sinks
Carbon Sequestration in water can also be achieved with so called Carbon sinks.
When seaweed breaks and sinks to the seabed it takes with it the Carbon that has been locked in its biomass. This Carbon sequestration is long-lived as the Carbon remains fixed for many years, often decades or even millennia.
This process happens spontaneously in storms strong currents anyway, but done actively is also a strategy for Carbon sequestration in water around the coast.
